OUR MISSION STATEMENT

The Queen City’s history is built on the stories, cultures, memories, and identities of the city’s people and places. The Rountree Council for Preservation’s goal is to continue the dialogue and education about the city’s rich variety of historic buildings and districts. We hope to support and advocate for historic preservation, neighborhood revitalization, ensure realistic placemaking in the community (and multifaceted citywide preservation) through thoughtful enduring design and people-centered planning. Our desire is to see the community grow into something with longevity through the observation of other successful cities and our community’s input.

Our Initiatives

  • Join us for educational programs, guided tours, and engaging workshops that highlight the significance of historic preservation and architecture. Together, we can deepen our appreciation for our past and inspire future generations to cherish our shared heritage.

  • From volunteer opportunities to community events, there are many ways to get involved and support the Rountree & surrounding neighborhoods. Together, we can enhance the quality of life for residents and strengthen the bonds that unite us.

  • Through restoration projects and conservation efforts, we aim to safeguard our architectural heritage and cultural legacy for future generations to cherish and enjoy.

“Is it not cruel to let our city die by degrees, stripped of all her proud monuments, until there will be nothing left of all her history and beauty to inspire our children. If they are not inspired by the past of our city, where will they find the strength to fight for her future?”

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis

“It has been said that, at its best, preservation engages the past in a conversation with the present over a mutual concern for the future.

William Murtagh, first Keeper of the National Register for Historic Places
